International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage(ICID)
ICID was established on June 24, 1950 as a Scientific, Technical and Voluntary Not-for profit Non-Governmental International Organization (NGO) with its Headquarters in New Delhi, India. The Commission is dedicated to enhancing the worldwide supply of food and fiber for all people by improving water and land management and the productivity of irrigated and drained lands through appropriate management of water, environment and application of irrigation, drainage and flood management techniques. ICID has a membership of 110 countries.
Pakistan National Committee on Irrigation & DrainagE (PANCID)
Pakistan National Committee on Irrigation and Drainage (PANCID) was set up for furthering the objectives of ICID and coordinating the various activities including collaboration and compilation of information/data, its publications and dissemination of information and activities in the field of irrigation, drainage and flood management. Functions of PANCID are as follows:
To act as a focal point for ICID activities
in Pakistan and further aims and objectives of the ICID within Pakistan.
To stimulate and promote the development and
application of irrigation, drainage, river training and flood control
techniques.
Cooperate with ICID for the distribution and
interchange of information concerning irrigation, drainage, river training and
flood control between the
National Committees of the participating Countries.
PANCID Composition
Pakistan is represented in ICID through Pakistan
National Committee on Irrigation and Drainage (PANCID). Chief Engineering
Adviser/Chairman, Federal Flood Commission, Ministry of Water & Power acts as
Chairman of the Pakistan National Committee on
Irrigation and Drainage.
Pakistan is a member of ICID since 1953. PANCID
has been actively participating in various activities of ICID since last (6) six
decades by contributing papers and reports as well as by
attending International meetings, congresses, seminars etc.
The activities are coordinated and managed by the
Pakistan National Committee on Irrigation & Drainage (PANCID) which has 28
members from various organizations, with its secretariat located in the office
of Chief Engineering Adviser/Chairman Federal Flood Commission, Ministry of
Water & Power, Islamabad.
Meetings Organized by PANCID
The following two meetings of ICID were organized by PANCID
1). PANCID held 37th meeting of ICID at Lahore in 1986.
2).
The 20th International Congress and 59th IEC Meeting of the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID) was successfully held in the historical city of Lahore, from 13-18 October, 2008. About 150 international and more than 400 local participants attended the event. The theme of the Conference, i.e. “Participatory Integrated Water Resources Management-From Concepts to Actions” was very much related to the challenges faced by the world in the 21st Century.
Besides, the above meeting, PANCID has also organized several national conferences seminars, workshops on various occasions.
